Examination of the baroreflex at the Neuro Praxis Düsseldorf

Baroreflex testing is a medical test that measures the body's response to changes in blood pressure. The baroreflex is a feedback loop that keeps blood pressure in the body within normal limits. It reacts to changes in blood pressure and adjusts heart rate and blood flow in the vessels to bring blood pressure back to normal levels.

Baroreflex testing is performed by suddenly changing the patient's blood pressure, e.g. by placing a cuff around the upper arm, which is rapidly inflated and deflated. Heart rate and blood pressure are measured.

Examination of the baroreflex can be used to detect and track diseases of the cardiovascular system such as hypertension (high blood pressure), abnormal heart rhythms and dizziness. It can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of therapies such as taking medication or performing surgery.

Baroreflex testing is safe and non-invasive, there are no side effects and it is painless. The results can be used in combination with other tests such as an ECG or 24-hour blood pressure measurement to make an accurate diagnosis and plan appropriate treatment.
